Choosing Your Arborist

Ill advised or badly executed tree work can result in injury, damage to property and irrevocable damage to your trees.

Here at Jonathan Le Maistre Tree Surgery Ltd we have a high degree of technical competence that is supported by training and experience; this is not always the case with companies that undertake tree work in Jersey.  We’ve seen and photographed a number of jobs that are being poorly and dangerously executed:

Six Questions you should ask an Arborist

  1. Are you insured?
They should have employers and public liability insurance with a recommended £5m minimum.
  2. Do you work to British Standards?
A serious tree surgeon should work to BS3998.
  3. What qualification do you have?
Must have relevant NPTC certification for all tree work operations being carried out.  It is also recommended that an arborist has related national certificates and diplomas.
  4. Will you provide a written quotation?
The answer to this should always be YES.
  5. Are you a member of a professional body?
Membership does not guarantee work standards but does show a degree of commitment to the industry.
  6. Can you provide a reference for work you have undertaken?
If they do, then follow up the lead to make sure it is legitimate.
